CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- A NASCAR driver's wife was injured in a crash in North Carolina during practice for a race for spouses and girlfriends of drivers, officials said.
Katie Kenseth, wife of driver Matt Kenseth, crashed Monday driving a Bandolero car at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, the kind of vehicle spouses and girlfriends of NASCAR drivers are scheduled to race Oct. 15 in the Better Half Dash charity fund-raising event at the speedway, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported.
The Bandolero cars are small race cars, typically used by beginners and featured in a summer race series at the track.
Kenseth's car crashed into a wall, and her husband rushed to her side.
She was carried from the track on a stretcher and treated at a local hospital.
"That didn't turn out so well," Matt Kenseth tweeted late Monday. "Katie and I are home, she has a broken scapula (shoulder blade) and some bumps and bruises. Thanks for all the well wishes."
Matt Kenseth ranks seventh in point standings for the Sprint Cup championship driving for the Roush Fenway Racing Team.
