ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Adrian Beltre smashed a two-run homer Monday and the Texas Rangers eliminated the Los Angeles Angels from playoff contention with a 4-3 victory.
Beltre's blast came in the fourth inning off Dan Haren (16-10) and Michael Young added an RBI single in the eighth to seal the victory for American League West champion Texas.
C.J. Wilson started and went two innings while Mark Hamburger (1-0) collected his first major league win with 3 2/3 innings of one-run relief for the Rangers.
Neftali Feliz allowed the Angels to creep to within a run in the ninth when Peter Bourjos delivered a two-out, RBI single. But he then struck out Howie Kendrick to end the game and pick up his 31st save.
Haren yielded four runs (three earned) on nine hits over eight frames for the Angels, who fell short in their bid for the American League wild-card spot with the loss.
