
DETROIT, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Delmon Young homered, went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs Tuesday, keying the Detroit Tigers' 9-6 victory over Cleveland.
Young's RBI single in first inning broke a scoreless tie and his two-run shot in the fourth handed the Tigers a 6-1 advantage.
Magglio Ordonez added three RBI on a pair of hits and Miguel Cabrera chipped in with a solo blast for American League Central champion Detroit, which came into the contest trailing AL West champs Texas by one game in the race for home field advantage in the playoffs.
Max Scherzer (15-9) broke a three-start winless streak, allowing four runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings, walking a pair and striking out seven.
Indians starter Jeanmar Gomez (5-3) was rocked for eight runs on 10 hits in just 4 2/3 innings.
Jason Donald provided a two-run single for Cleveland.
