
BANGKOK, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Ivan Dodig and Fabio Fognini were upset victims Monday in the first round of the PTT Thailand Open tennis tournament.
Grigor Dimitrov ousted Dodig, the No. 5 seed, 6-2, 7-5 by winning 58 percent of the points in the match. He was also able to save three of the four break points he faced.
Danai Udomchoke, a local wild-card entrant, defeated the sixth-seeded Fognini 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 by getting five service breaks. Udomchoke, ranked No. 217 faced only one break point outside of the second set.
Seventh-seeded Robin Haase got past another Thai wild card with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) win over Kittipong Wachiramanowong. Haase had nine aces and took two-thirds of the points on serve.
Santiago Giraldo was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Dudi Sela in Monday's other match.
The $587,000 tournament features world No. 4 Andy Murray as the top seed and ninth-ranked Gael Monfils is seeded second.
