
CHICAGO, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Dylan Axelrod earned his first major league win with six shutout innings Monday and the Chicago White Sox hung on for a 4-3 victory over Toronto.
Axelrod (1-0), who was promoted from Class AAA Charlotte Sept. 5, got his maiden win in his third start.
He held the Blue Jays to three hits while issuing a pair of walks and striking out six for the White Sox, who took the opener of a season-ending, three-game series.
Tyler Flowers belted a three-run homer in the second inning and Dayan Viciedo added an RBI for the White Sox.
Toronto's Dustin McGowan (0-2) absorbed the loss, allowing three runs on four hits over four innings.
David Cooper provided a two-run double in the ninth for Toronto to make it close, but Adam Lind struck out with the bases loaded to end the game.
