BUCHAREST, Romania, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Florian Mayer picked up the first ATP title of his 10-year professional career with a straight-set win Sunday over Pablo Andujar at the ATP stop in Romania.
Mayer defeated Andujar 6-3, 6-1 in just more than an hour in winning the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy event in Bucharest. It was Mayer's first win in five trips to ATP finals. He was also the runner-up in May in Germany.
Andujar, who had his first appearance in an ATP final last year in Bucharest, slipped to 1-3 in title matches.
Mayer piled up five service breaks in taking 59 percent of the points in the match. He suffered his only break of the day in the first set but ran through the second by losing just six points over his four service games and allowing Andujar six when receiving.
Mayer won $91,300 along with the championship, pushing his 2011 earnings to more than $844,000. Andujar settled for the second-place check of $48,000.
