CHICAGO, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Luis Mendoza hurled 7 2/3 strong innings Sunday and the Kansas City Royals notched a 2-1 decision over the Chicago White Sox.
Mendoza (2-1) yielded one run on five hits and two walks for the Royals, who won for the 10th time in 13 games.
Greg Holland preserved the win by working out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth, then fanned three White Sox batters in ninth to pick up his fourth save.
Jarrod Dyson provided Kansas City's offense with a two-run double in the sixth inning, taking the rubber match of a three-game series.
Chicago's Gavin Floyd (12-13) was saddled with the hard-luck loss, surrendering two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out 10.
Paul Konerko drove in the only Chisox run.
