SEOUL, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Polona Hercog beat higher seeded players Friday in quarterfinal play of the Hansol Korea Open tennis tournament.

Martinez Sanchez, seeded sixth, ousted No. 3-seeded Julia Goerges 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 after finishing off six breaks over Goerges's 10 service games. Martinez Sanchez, who dropped her own serve three times, won more than half the points when receiving serve.

Hercog, the No. 5 seed, defeated fourth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova 6-3, 6-1, taking nearly two-thirds of the points in her eight receiving games. Hercog converted six of eight break-point chances.

Also Friday, Galina Voskoboeva advanced over Vera Dushevina 6-2, 6-3 and Klara Zakopalova got past Vania King 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
