MLB: San Francisco 8, LA Dodgers 5

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Rookies Justin Christian and Brett Pill combined for six hits and five RBI Wednesday in the San Francisco Giants 8-5 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Christian went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs. Pill had three hits and two RBI for the Giants, who won for the eighth time in nine games.

San Francisco trails Atlanta by 3 1/2 games in the NL wild-card chase and is 5 1/2 back of Arizona in the NL West.

Ryan Vogelsong (12-7) allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk in five innings to get the win.

The Giants -- who had been held to an 0.84 ERA against Dodgers starter Dana Eveland (2-2) -- knocked him out with five runs on six hits through four innings.

Matt Kemp homered, drove in three and scored twice, and James Loney had three hits and one RBI for LA.
