Vania King collects first Top 10 victory

SEOUL, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Vania King took advantage of Marion Bartoli's serving problems and posted a second-round upset Wednesday at the Hansol Korea Open tennis tournament in Seoul.

King collected her first victory over the Top 10 player with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Bartoli, ranked 10th in the world and seeded No. 2 in Seoul.

Bartoli landed just 43 percent of her first serves and had 17 double faults. That helped King win nearly half the points when Bartoli served. King ended up with five service breaks.

That put King into the tournament quarterfinals against Klara Zakopalova, who routed seventh-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu 6-1, 6-1. Zakopalova broke Begu's serve six times in seven receiving games.

Another quarterfinal was set when fourth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova, who won the first set 7-6 (7-4), advanced when Yaroslava Shvedova retired and No. 5-seeded Polona Hercog defeated Carla Suarez Navarro 6-4, 7-5.

Hercog had three service breaks in the first set and two in the second of her win.
