WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Dan Kennedy turned aside a penalty kick in stoppage time Wednesday, preserving a 2-2 tie for Chivas USA against D.C. United.

Chivas overcame a two-goal deficit and then earned a point when Kennedy stopped the penalty kick by Dwayne De Rosario.

A win would have moved United (8-8-11) into a wild-card playoff position.

De Rosario opened the scoring in the 39th minute and Ethan White gave United a 2-0 halftime lead with a goal in the 47th minute.

Both Chivas goals came from Juan Pablo Angel in the 57th and 70th minutes. Chivas (7-12-11) is winless in its last seven matches.
