ST. LOUIS, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Ryan Theriot's pinch-hit two-run double and Adron Chambers' three-run triple Tuesday led the St. Louis Cardinals to an 11-6 win over the New York Mets.
The Cardinals won for the sixth time in their last seven games and pulled to within 2 1/2 games of Atlanta in the NL wild-card race.
Theriot's double and Chambers' bases-clearing triple came during a six-run seventh after the Mets had scored a run in the top of the sixth to tie the score 5-5. Albert Pujols and Lance Bergman both drove in a pair of runs for the Cards.
Octavio Dotel (4-3) picked up the win in relief of Edwin Jackson, who allowed five runs on nine hits through five innings.
Mike Pelfrey gave up five runs on 10 hits in six innings. Josh Stinson (0-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning.
