DENVER, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Anthony Bass and five Padres relievers combined in a six-hit shutout Wednesday, propelling San Diego to a 4-0 whitewash and a series sweep of Colorado.

Bass (2-0), a rookie reliever making his second career start, surrendered only two hits over five frames, walking one and fanning one.

Ernesto Frieri, Luke Gregerson and Chad Qualls each notched a scoreless inning of relief and Heath Bell picked up his 41st save in the ninth for the Padres, completing a three-game sweep at Coors Field.

San Diego tallied all four of its runs in the first inning, highlighted by run-scoring hits from Anthony Rizzo and Andy Parrino.

Colorado's Aaron Cook (3-10) absorbed the loss despite striking out eight over five innings.
