TORONTO, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Dan Haren limited Toronto to four hits over eight innings Wednesday, carrying the Los Angeles Angels to a 7-2 victory over the Blue Jays.

Los Angeles won its second in a row in its late-season push to grab the American League wild-card berth. The Angels climbed within 2 1/2 games of Boston for the wild-card spot after the Red Sox fell to Baltimore.

Haren (16-9) allowed a run and struck out four before giving way in the ninth to Hisanori Takahashi.

Vernon Wells drove in three runs for the Angels with a sixth-inning single and an eighth-inning two run homer. Peter Bourjos had a solo homer in the fifth while Maicer Izturis had RBI singles in both the third and eighth.

Dustin McGowan (0-1), seeing his first action in two years late this season after undergoing two shoulder surgeries, took the loss. He gave up only two runs over five innings in just his fourth appearance of the season and third start.
