
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Ross Detwiler and a pair of relievers combined on a three-hit shutout Tuesday and Washington completed a doubleheader sweep with a 3-0 win over Philadelphia.
Detwiler (3-5) fired 7 1/3 scoreless frames, issuing only one walk and striking out three while tossing 51 of his 81 pitches for strikes.
The Nationals left-hander allowed only one runner to reach second base and added an RBI single in he sixth inning as Washington took the twin bill from the Phillies after winning the opener 4-3.
Henry Rodriguez got the final two outs in the eighth and Drew Storen racked up his 40th save.
Cliff Lee (16-8) surrendered 11 hits and three runs (two earned) while walking none and fanning nine over seven innings to absorb the loss -- the eighth in 12 games for the National League East champs.
The Phils have scored three runs or fewer in 12 of their last 13 games.
