METZ, France, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Eighth-seeded Gilles Muller won a pair of tiebreakers Monday in posting a first-round win at the Moselle Open tennis tournament in France.
Muller edged past Philipp Petzschner 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 (7-5). He battled through five break points for Petzschner and, even without having a break-point opportunity of his own in the first set, took the advantage by winning the tiebreaker.
Both players cashed in break chances on the second set but again Miller came through in the tiebreaker. Petzschner dropped just 11 points over six service games but was eliminated.
Macros Baghdatis knocked off Matthias Bachinger 7-5, 6-2 in Monday's other match. Baghdatis saved the only break point he face and finished off three of his seven break chances in advancing.
French players Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet are the top seeds for the event and were given first-round byes.
