
FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Tom Brady hurled a trio of touchdown passes Sunday, amassing 423 yards in the New England Patriots' 35-21 home-opening victory over San Diego.
Brady converted 31-of-40 pass attempts, distributing at least one pass to seven receivers.
Deion Branch was the busiest, making eight grabs for 129 yards, while Rob Gronkowski caught four balls for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis rushed for 70 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown for New England (2-0), whose the Patriots' defense forced four turnovers.
Philip Rivers led the Chargers (1-1) with 378 yards on 29-of-40 passing, but hurt his team's cause by fumbling once and tossing a pair of interceptions.
San Diego's Vincent Jackson hauled down 10 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
