
BOSTON, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Matt Joyce drove in three runs Sunday and the Tampa Bay Rays crept closer to American League wild-card leading Boston with an 8-5 victory.
Joyce finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Desmond Jennings, Sean Rodriguez and Johnny Damon added an RBI apiece as the Rays took three out of four games in a crucial series at Fenway Park.
They pulled to within two games of the Red Sox with Sunday's win.
Jake McGee (3-1) got the victory after allowing one run over 2 2/3 innings in relief of starter David Price, who had yielded two runs on three hits over four frames.
Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (7-7) was blasted for six runs (four earned) on six hits over five innings.
Mike Aviles belted a three-run homer for Boston, which trails the New York Yankees by 4 1/2 games in the AL East.
