ATLANTA, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Ruben Tejada delivered an RBI single in the eighth inning Sunday, helping send the New York Mets to a 7-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Tejeda's run-scoring hit off Jonny Venters (6-2) broke a 5-5 tie and Lucas Duda added a solo shot in the ninth for insurance as the Mets won the three-game series.

Tejada finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and reliever Tim Byrdak (2-0) got the victory in relief of ineffective starter Dillon Gee.

The National League wild-card leading Braves lost for the sixth time in nine games. They came into the contest with a 4 1/2-game lead over the Cardinals.

Starter Brandon Beachy was touched for four runs on five hits while striking out eight through 4 1/3 innings.
