FRISCO, Texas, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- A goal by Luke Rodgers in the 36th minute Saturday gave New York a vital 1-0 victory over Dallas.

New York moved into a tie with Portland for the final playoff position in MLS. It was only the sixth victory of the season for New York, which leads the league in ties with 15.

Rodgers took a crossing pass from Juan Agudelo and sent a shot from the center of the box into the right corner that beat goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.

Dallas, which began the night in third place in the Western Conference, lost for the third time in four games and fell to 13-9-7.
