OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Gio Gonzalez held the Tigers to one run over seven innings Saturday, pitching the Oakland Athletics to a 5-3 win over American League Central champion Detroit.
Gonzalez (14-12) surrendered eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts to win his second straight start for the A's, who logged a victory in the third contest of a four-game series.
Coco Crisp drove in a pair of runs and Jemile Weeks added three hits and an RBI for the A's.
The Tigers, meanwhile, lost less than a day after celebrating the clinching of their first divisional title since 1987, which they accomplished Friday night with a 3-1 win over the A's.
Don Kelly belted a two-run double for the Tigers while Rick Porcello (14-9) went seven innings and was tagged for three runs on nine hits to take the loss.
