MLB: St. Louis 3, Pittsburgh 2

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Edwin Jackson scattered eight hits and Yadier Molina doubled in two runs Wednesday lifting St. Louis to a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The loss was the 82nd of the year for Pittsburgh, which will finish under .500 for a 19th consecutive season. The Pirates have lost 12 times in their last 17 games. St. Louis won for the seventh time in eight games.

Jackson (12-9) allowed four doubles and four singles but didn't walk a batter and struck out five over 6 2/3 innings. The St. Louis bullpen chipped in 2 1/3 innings of no-hit relief, capped by Jason Motte, whose 1-2-3 ninth was worth his seventh save.

St. Louis went out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an Allen Craig RBI double off Pirates starter Charlie Morton (9-10). It was one of six hits Morton allowed in seven innings but he hurt himself with three walks and a hit batter.

Morton walked Lance Berkman to open the fourth and then hit Craig with a pitch. Molina sliced a drive off the right-field wall and two runs scored for a 4-1 lead.

Pittsburgh's runs came on a third-inning double by Alex Pressley and a double by Derrick Lee in the sixth that knocked in Pressley. Lee had three hits and Pressley two in the game.
