Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Mark De Rosa singled in the 12th inning Tuesday to drive in the winning run in the San Francisco Giants' 3-2 victory over San Diego.
Orlando Hudson leaped and got his glove on the ball but could not hold on, allowing Cody Ross to sprint home from third for the walk-off win.
Ramon Ramirez (3-3) got the win for his scoreless 12th inning. Giants starter Matt Cain was sharp in 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six.
Carlos Beltran and Pablo Sandoval both had three hits for the Giants. Sandoval notched an RBI as well.
Jason Bartlett drove in the only two runs for the Padres with a two-out double in the seventh inning.
Brad Brach (0-1) took the loss in relief.
