Bruins ink Brad Marchand to extension

BOSTON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Forward Brad Marchand, a key part of the Boston Bruins' run to the 2011 Stanley Cup title, has signed a contract extension, the team said Wednesday.

Marchand piled up 11 goals during the 25-game post-season run, including two in the Bruins' 4-0 title-clinching victory over Vancouver in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Terms weren't disclosed but Canadian broadcaster TSN reported it is worth $5 million.

The 23-year-old native of Nova Scotia, Canada, has amassed 42 points and 71 penalty minutes in 97 career games over the last two years.
