CINCINNATI, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Mike Leake held the Cubs to one run over eight innings and Brandon Phillips homered Tuesday in the Cincinnati Reds' 2-1 victory over Chicago.
Leake (12-9) allowed six hits, walked one and struck out two, inducing the Cubs to hit in a pair of double-plays en route to the victory. The right-hander took a shutout into the sixth inning, tossing 62 of his 91 pitches for strikes as Cincinnati claimed the second contest of a four-game series.
Francisco Cordero turned in a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his 33rd save.
Phillips' first-inning solo blast put the Reds ahead to stay and Edgar Renteria added a run-scoring single in the fifth.
Ryan Dempster (10-12) issued six walks while absorbing the loss for Chicago, surrendering a pair of runs on six hits while fanning eight in a seven-inning start.
