ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Los Angeles center fielder Peter Bourjos dropped a fly ball for a two-run error Sunday, allowing the New York Yankees to rally for a 6-5 win over the Angels.
New York was trailing 5-4 and had runners at the corners with one out in the seventh inning when Mark Teixeira lofted a deep fly to center. Bourjos settled under it on the warning track but it clanked off his glove, allowing both Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter to scamper home.
The error made a winner of Cory Wade (5-0), who tossed a scoreless sixth inning in relief of ineffective Yankees starter Freddy Garcia.
Rafael Soriano and David Robertson teamed up for two more scoreless frames and Mariano Rivera collected his 40th save for the American League East-leading Yankees, who avoided a three-game sweep by the Angels.
Curtis Granderson socked a two-run homer for the Yanks.
Ervin Santana (11-11) was saddled with the loss, yielding six runs (five earned) on eight hits for Los Angeles, which fell 2 1/2 games behind first-place Texas in the American League West.
Howie Kendrick and Bourjos each belted two-run homers in the loss.
