DENVER, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Drew Pomeranz tossed five scoreless innings to notch a win in his major league debut Sunday, sparking the Colorado Rockies' 4-1 win over Cincinnati.
Pomeranz (1-0), a highly touted, 22-year-old left-hander, stifled the Reds on two hits and two walks. He struck out two.
The fifth overall pick in last year's draft, the Rockies obtained him at the trade deadline as part of the deal that sent pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez to the Cleveland Indians.
Josh Hammel earned his first save with four innings of one-run relief as the Rockies took the rubber match of a three-game series at Coors Field.
Ty Wigginton went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and Jordan Pacheco added an RBI single for the Rockies.
Cincinnati's Edinson Volquez (5-5) surrendered two runs on four hits over five innings.
Joey Votto homered for the Reds' only run.
