Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CARSON, Calif., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Landon Donovan scored in the 36th minute Friday and the Los Angeles Galaxy clinched a playoff berth with a 1-0 decision over Colorado.
The Galaxy, with 55 points, became the first team to reach the MLS post-season. Los Angeles, with a 15-3-10 record, leads second-place Dallas in the Western Conference by seven points.
Colorado (10-8-11) is in fifth place in the West, but is still in good position to make the playoffs.
Donovan scored his 12th goal of the season, tying him with Thierry Henry for the league lead. Donovan's goal came on a one-timer to the far post off a pass from David Beckham.
Wells Thompson put a rebound into the net in the 57th minute for Colorado, but the goal was negated by an offside call.
