
ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Scott Sizemore clubbed a grand slam Saturday and the Oakland Athletics withstood a Texas comeback bid to down the Rangers 8-7.
Sizemore's blast, followed by Cliff Pennington's RBI double, gave the A's an 8-3 lead in the sixth inning. Oakland then got scoreless relief frames from Grant Balfour and Andrew Bailey (20th save) down the stretch to secure the win.
Ryan Sweeney went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple for the A's, who evened their three-game set in Arlington.
Trevor Cahill (11-13) earned the win despite allowing five runs on seven hits in a five-inning start.
Texas starter Alexi Ogando (12-8) yielded five runs (three earned) on six hits over five innings.
Adrian Beltre went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer for Texas. Michael Young added three hits, including a two-run single in the ninth for the Rangers, who entered the game with a 2 1/2-game lead over the Los Angeles Angels atop the American League West.
