ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Maicer Izturis' ninth-inning sacrifice fly ended an outstanding pitchers' duel Friday and gave the Los Angeles Angels a 2-1 win over the New York Yankees.

Los Angeles starter Jared Weaver gave up only three hits, one of them a homer, through eight innings, and Bartolo Colon allowed a run on six hits in seven frames for the Yankees.

Two New York relievers, however, gave up a pair of singles to start the ninth.

Los Angeles remained 2 1/2 games behind first-place Texas in the American League West and the Yankees, despite losing their third in a row, stayed 2 1/2 ahead of second-place Boston in the American League East. Boston has also dropped three straight.

Alberto Callaspo singled to start the ninth off Aaron Laffey (2-2) and Jeremy Moore came in as a pinch-runner. Luis Ayala replaced Callaspo on the mound and gave up a single to Vernon Wells that sent Moore to third.

Peter Bourjos was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Izturis hit the first pitch he saw from Ayala to center for the winning blow.

Jordan Walden (5-3) relieved Weaver in the ninth and got the victory.

Jesus Montero hit a home run in the third inning and was the only member of the Yankees to advance past first base during the entire game.
