PHOENIX, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Lyle Overbay's RBI single gave Arizona its first lead of the game in the eighth inning Friday and the Diamondbacks held on to defeat San Diego 3-2.

Arizona, which began the night with a 7 1/2-game lead in the National League West, won its third in a row. The Diamondbacks have 15 victories in their last 17 contests.

Daniel Hudson (16-9) went the distance for Arizona to win his fourth straight start. He gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits in throwing his third complete game of the season.

Despite Hudson's effort, Arizona trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth. The Diamondbacks then produced a single run in each of three straight innings.

Justin Upton started the Arizona rally with a one-out homer in the sixth off Mat Latos, who until then had held the Diamondbacks scoreless on three hits.

Chris Young led off the seventh with a double and scored the tying run on a triple by Gerardo Parra. Even though Parra reached third with nobody out, he was unable to score the go-ahead run. He was eventually tagged out at home for the final out of the inning trying to score on Willie Bloomquist's fly ball to left.

Chad Qualls (6-7) replaced Latos to start the eighth and walked Aaron Hill to open the inning. Miguel Montero singled Hill to third, and Hill scored on Overbay's two-out single.
