PITTSBURGH, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A fluke three-run homer by Omar Infante highlighted a nine-run third inning Friday and the Florida Marlins erupted for 22 hits in crushing Pittsburgh 13-4.
Infante had two home runs and five RBI while Logan Morrison had three hits, one of them a homer, and drove in three runs.
The Marlins set a franchise record with 10 hits in the third inning, six of them coming with no outs.
Florida had already scored four times in the third when Infante came up with John Buck on second and pitcher Ricky Nolasco on first. Infante, who hit a solo homer to open the scoring in the first, drove a ball to deep left, but Alex Presley had just enough room in front of the wall to make the catch. The ball bounced off the heel of Presley's glove, however, and had enough momentum to go over the fence.
Morrison added a two-run homer later in the inning and had an RBI single in the fifth.
Nolasco (10-10) picked up the easy win, going six innings while giving up three runs on nine hits.
Ross Ohlendorf (0-2), making his sixth start of the season, did not retire a batter in the third and was charged with six runs on 10 hits. Ohlendorf had an 11-10 record for the Pirates in 2009, but has gone 1-13 since then.
