WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Tony Gwynn Jr. doubled in two runs in the ninth inning Thursday, giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a 7-4 win over Washington in the first game of a doubleheader.

The game was a makeup of a rainout Wednesday and marked the Dodgers' 13th victory in 16 games.

A four-run third inning by the Nationals countered a pair of two-run doubles by the Dodgers' Juan Rivera and the score stayed 4-4 until the ninth.

Drew Storen (6-3) was brought in by Washington to pitch the ninth and, after an out, he hit Jerry Sands with a pitch. Rod Barajas singled before Storen struck out Trent Oeltjen.

But Gwynn hit the first pitch he saw into the gap in right center, driving in Sands and Barajas. He stole third and reached home on a single by Dee Gordon.

The Dodgers went through seven pitchers, including Mike MacDougal (3-1), who picked up the win with one inning of relief. Javy Guerra pitched the ninth for his 16th save.

Rivera had two-run doubles in the first and third innings before Washington put together a single, two doubles and a Jayson Werth two-run home run -- his 19th on the season -- in tying the score in the bottom of the third.
