NEW YORK, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- David Ross singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth and added a homer Thursday, lifting Atlanta to a 5-1 win over the New York Mets and a doubleheader sweep.
The Braves snapped a three-game losing streak in the opener with a 6-5 decision in which Craig Kimbrel earned his rookie record 43rd save.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning of the second game, with Dan Uggla producing an RBI single for Atlanta and Jason Bay lifting a sacrifice fly for the Mets. Bay hit a grand slam homer during the opener in a losing cause.
It remained a 1-1 contest until Martin Prado opened the sixth with a double off Dillon Gee (12-6) and scored on a one-out single up the middle by Ross.
Chipper Jones added a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Ross accounted for one of Atlanta's two runs in the ninth with his sixth homer of the season.
Julio Teheran (1-1), recalled from Class AAA to make the start, picked up his first major league victory. He allowed a run on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The two wins boosted Atlanta's lead in the National League wild-card race to 7 1/2 games over idle St. Louis.
