DENVER, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- John McDonald drove in the tying run and scored the go-ahead tally in the sixth Wednesday, bringing the Arizona Diamondbacks a 5-3 decision over Colorado.

The Diamondbacks expanded their lead in the National League West to seven games over second-place San Francisco, which fell to San Diego earlier in the evening.

Arizona took the lead on Miguel Montero's two-run homer in the third, but pitcher Kevin Millwood and Carlos Gonzalez hit solo shots for the Rockies in the same inning.

Colorado went in front on a solo blast by Wilin Rosario in the fourth before the Diamondbacks rallied, thanks in large part to McDonald.

Paul Goldschmidt singled to open the inning off Millwood (2-2), but was still on first two outs later. McDonald then came through with his run-scoring double on a 2-1 pitch and starting pitcher Joe Saunders followed with a single to bring home McDonald.

Justin Upton added a homer for Arizona in the seventh.

Saunders (10-12) gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings to get the victory. J.J. Putz struck out two in the ninth for his 37th save.

The home run for Millwood was the third of his 15-year major league career and his first in 2002, which was the last of his six seasons with Atlanta.
