Football player beaten with his own helmet

WALTON, Ga., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A Georgia high school football player suffered a concussion when his helmet was removed and he was beaten with it during a game, school officials said.

Loganville Christian Academy player Jarett Briscoe was beaten after his team scored its fifth touchdown against Northside High School last week, The Walton Tribune reported Wednesday.

"There are three knots on the boy's head, and over the weekend he was dizzy at times and was nauseous, but the doctor said he was going to be all right," LCA Chief Financial Officer Doug Monda said Tuesday.

Soon after the incident, Northside forfeited the match.

No charges have been filed yet, Monda said.

"The decision is the mother's to make if they would lock the player up," Monda said. "I spoke with her and said to let 24 hours pass and let calmer heads prevail. She has since called for a meeting with the boy and the coach and we are in the process of helping facilitate that.

"She was quite upset and I think everyone is upset about this," he said. "I've never in 46 years seen a kid pop off a helmet and bash another player in the head.
