NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Francisco Cervelli and Brett Gardner hit back-to-back seventh-inning home runs Tuesday and the New York Yankees beat Baltimore 5-3.
The Yankees got a third-inning solo home run and two runs scored from Jorge Posada in their sixth straight win. Second-place Boston won Tuesday, to stay within 2 1/2 games of New York in the American League East.
Yankees starter Phil Hughes went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Cory Wade (4-0) got the win in relief.
Cervelli and Gardner homered off of Orioles starter Tommy Hunter (3-3), who allowed five runs -- four earned -- on five hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings.
Matt Wieters hit a two-run home run for Baltimore, which has lost four straight.
The game started 4 hours late because of a rain delay and wasn't over until 2:20 a.m. EDT.
