CHICAGO, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Carlos Pena hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the eighth inning Wednesday in carrying the Chicago Cubs to a 6-3 victory over Cincinnati.
The Cubs took two out of three from the Reds, letting a two-run lead get away in the seventh before Pena came through with his decisive blow.
Logan Ondrusek came on to relieve starter Johnny Cueto in the eighth and gave up a lead-off single to Starlin Castro. Reed Johnson sacrificed Castro to second and Aramis Ramirez was walked intentionally.
Ondrusek (4-5) was then replaced by Bill Bray and Pena hit Bray's first pitch over the wall in right for his 26th homer of the season.
Kerry Wood (2-5) allowed a single and struck out a batter in the eighth to get the win. Carlos Marmol retired the side in order in the ninth for his 33rd save.
