ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- C.J. Wilson hurled a five-hit shutout and David Murphy knocked in four runs Tuesday, elevating the Texas Rangers to an 8-0 rout of Tampa Bay.
Wilson (15-6) earned his first career shutout and won for the fifth time in six starts for the American League West-leading Rangers, who evened their three-game set with the Rays at one win apiece.
The left-hander tossed 73 of his 117 pitches for strikes, walking three and striking out six en route to the victory.
Murphy went 4-for-4 with a solo homer and a pair of run-scoring doubles while Ian Kinsler added a bases-empty clout and Josh Hamilton chipped in with an RBI double for Texas.
Tampa Bay's Jeff Niemann (9-7) was rocked for seven runs on nine hits in just 4 2/3 innings.
