
TORONTO, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Jon Lester hurled seven shutout innings and Marco Scutaro went 4-for-4 with four RBI Tuesday in Boston's 14-0 dismantling of Toronto.
Lester (15-6) won his fourth straight decision with a dominating performance, striking out 11 Blue Jays while scattering three hits and a walk.
The Red Sox, meanwhile, banged out 20 hits with Scutaro leading the way with two run-scoring doubles and an RBI single in a four-run first inning.
David Ortiz went 4-for-5 with two RBI, and Adrian Gonzalez added three hits and knocked in a pair of runs for the Red Sox, who also got a two-run homer from Jerrod Saltalamacchia in the slugfest.
The American League wild card-leading Bosox entered the game 2 1/2 games behind the Yankees atop the American League East.
Luis Perez (3-3) lasted only 2 2/3 innings, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits before exiting for Toronto.
