NORTON, Mass., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Webb Simpson sank birdies on both playoff holes Monday, besting Chez Reavie for the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Simpson's 8-footer on the par-4 17th hole sealed his second PGA Tour title, capping a furious run during which he collected three straight birdies down the stretch.
Simpson rebounded after losing a playoff to Bubba Watson this year at New Orleans, closing Monday with a 6-under 65. Reavie fired a 5-under 66 to end at 15-under 269.
Both players birdied the first playoff hole. They moved to 17, where Reavie's birdie effort missed right and Simpson calmly drained his 8-footer for birdie and the victory.
Simpson also took over the lead in the points race for the FedExCup.
Top-ranked Luke Donald registered with a 4-under 67, forging a third-place tie with Jason Day (68) and Brandt Snedeker (66) at 13-under-par 271.
