
ST. LOUIS, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Randy Wolf held the Cardinals to one run over eight innings Monday and the Milwaukee Brewers downed National League Central rival St. Louis 4-1.
Wolf (12-9) won for the sixth time in his last seven decisions, yielding only four hits, a run and two walks while fanning five. He also contributed at the plate with had a pair of hits.
John Axford tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his 41st save as Milwaukee moved 10 1/2 games ahead of the second-place Cardinals. St. Louis had swept a three-game set at Miller Park last week.
Ryan Braun and Nyjer Morgan each went deep and Corey Hart extended his hitting streak to 17 games in the opener of a three-game series.
Jake Westbrook (11-8) surrendered nine hits and struck out nine over six innings for St. Louis.
