DETROIT, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Miguel Cabrera and Andy Dirks both hit two-run homers and had four RBI apiece Sunday in Detroit's 18-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The Tigers, who outscored Chicago 35-11 in the series, racked up 24 hits to make it an easy night for starter Max Scherzer (14-8), who responded with seven shutout innings. Scherzer allowed five hits without a walk and struck out six.

Alex Avila had four hits for the Tigers.

The Chisox finally put up two runs in the ninth inning.

The loss -- Chicago's fourth straight -- put the White Sox 8 1/2 games behind Detroit in the American League Central.
