
CHICAGO, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Matt Garza held the Cincinnati Reds at bay for eight innings and Aramis Ramirez drove in two runs Monday, sending the Chicago Cubs to a 4-3 win.
Garza (8-10) pitched into the eighth inning, allowing one earned run on six hits and three walks. The right-hander fanned eight in posting his third win in four starts.
Carlos Marmol ensured the victory with a scoreless ninth, racking up his 32nd save.
Ramirez delivered a two-run single in the fifth and later scored on a wild pitch, handing the Cubs a 4-1 lead, and Alfonso Soriano also knocked in a run for the victors.
Dontrelle Willis (0-5) absorbed the loss, allowing six hits and four runs in a six-inning start for the Reds. He struck out eight but walked five in the outing.
Yonder Alonso contributed an RBI for Cincinnati.
