Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHICAGO, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Randy Wells pitched six innings of one-run ball and Marlon Byrd drove in two runs Sunday in the Chicago Cubs' 6-3 victory over Pittsburgh.
Wells (7-4) yielded one run on seven hits and two walks. He carded two strikeouts for the Cub.
The right-hander logged a victory in his third straight start and Sean Marshall picked up his fourth save for the Cubs.
Byrd knocked in runs with a fifth-inning sacrifice fly, giving Chicago a 3-1 lead, and a single in the eighth.
Pittsburgh's Charlie Morton (9-9) surrendered four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 4 1/3 frames.
Neil Walker slammed a two-run homer and Derrek Lee went 3-for-4 with a run-scoring single for the Bucs.
