
BOSTON, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Carl Crawford's grand slam highlighted an eight-run fourth inning Saturday that carried the Boston Red Sox to a 12-7 victory over Texas.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia got the big inning going with a two-run homer and Dustin Pedroia added a three-run double in the frame, during which the Bosox sent 13 men to the plate.
Josh Reddick chipped in four hits and scored three times for the victors, who stayed a half-game behind the first-place Yankees in the American League East.
Erik Bedard (5-9) earned his first victory for the Red Sox since being acquired from Seattle in a trade-deadline deal. He allowed five hits and three runs over six innings.
The Rangers' Colby Lewis (11-10) yielded seven hits and four runs over 3 1/3 innings.
American League West-leading Texas got a pinch-hit homer from Esteban German in the loss.
