HAMPTON, Ga., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Carl Edwards held off Kyle Busch down the stretch and nosed out an 0.7-second win Saturday in the Nationwide Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Edwards, the pole sitter, had to overcome an early pit-road penalty. The driver was cited for an air gun and hose that got away from his stall after he had pulled in for pit stop.
But he passed Kevin Harvick for the lead after the final restart with 19 laps remaining and went on to edge Busch for his sixth win of the season and the 35th of his Nationwide career.
Current points leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. came in third, while Harvick and Kasey Kahne -- won the pole for Sunday's 500-mile Sprint Cup race at Atlanta -- rounded out the Top 5.
Stenhouse's lead over 10th-place finisher Elliott Sadler now stands at 13 points.
