Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- The NFL announced Friday New Orleans defensive end Will Smith will miss the first two games of the season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
Smith will have to sit out the season-opener Sept. 8 against Green Bay and will also miss a game Sept. 18 against the Chicago Bears. League officials said Smith can return to the active roster Sept. 19.
In addition to the missed time on the field, Smith will be fined an additional two game checks.
Smith has played in 109 games for the Saints, producing 364 tackles, 55 sacks and two interceptions.
