CHICAGO, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Garrett Jones, Josh Harrison and Jose Tabata each drove in a run Friday and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1 to break a five-game losing streak.
Pirates' starter Brian Burres (1-0) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts in his first major league appearance of 2011. The only he gave up came on a second-inning home run by Carlos Pena.
Pirates centerfielder Andrew McCutchen left the game after being hit in the hand by a Ryan Dempster fastball in the top of the first.
Dempster (10-11) allowed three runs on seven hits with one walk and nine strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. The Cubs had won two straight coming into the game.
