WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A U.S. district judge ruled Friday former major league pitcher Roger Clemens must again stand trial for perjury.

Judge Reggie Walton declared a mistrial when the case was heard in July and attorneys for Clemens had argued that the charges against him should be dropped. Walton, however, said prosecutors could retry the case, and set a new trial date of April 17, 2012.

The mistrial had been declared because the prosecution presented evidence that had previously been declared inadmissible. That evidence included video of Congressional hearings concerning drug use in baseball.

The charges against Clemens stem from his testimony at a hearing before a congressional committee.
